Awards, Certifications,
and Recognition

CJPS Students have the ability to earn a number of awards, certifications, and career recognition. The accomplishments of all students are proudly displayed in our shop however below are some of the examples of what is possible and what students have earned.

Years of Service
​Awarded based on years with the program. One star per year with the program. The star is earned at the start of the academic year.

Exceptional Citizenship
​Awarded to any member who receives recognition for an outstanding personal achievement in the community or who goes above and beyond in demonstrating humanity and compassion.

Community Service
Awarded to any member who contributes half or more of their community service hours to program related events or any member who contributes hours above and beyond the required amount.

Chief's Award
Awarded for any action or series of actions by a member which the instructors deem worthy of career recognition.

Disaster-Specific Challenge Coin

EOC Operation
Awarded when the class EOC contributes significant assistance to a major National or local incident.

Attendance
Awarded for flawless shop attendance in a school year.
Picture
Good Conduct
Awarded to a member who sets an exemplary example for other members of the program or who displays a positive image of themselves, privately and professionally, which reflects positively on the image of the program to the public.

Merit
Awarded to any member who demonstrates unusual devotion to duty and whose actions bring great praise to the program, from public or outside agencies, when such action is of the member’s own incentive.

Valor
Awarded to any member whose actions help prevent injury or further injury to any student, faculty, or member of the public or whose actions demonstrate being a good Samaritan.

FTO (Field Training Officer)
Awarded to any member who assists significantly with the instruction of a lower class or who instructs members of the community on behalf of the program in a manner which brings credit to the program.

State Licensed EMR or EMT
Awarded to any member who successfully obtains State of Connecticut licensure in emergency medicine.

Certifications Available to Students

The following are certifications that are provided to students as part of their curriculum. EMR and EMT require successful completion of the program and State testing. There are numerous other certifications available to students on an individual basis.

  • Stop the Bleed
  • HAZMAT Awareness
  • Incident Command System
  • National Incident Management System
  • National Response Framework
  • Emergency Medical Responder (EMR)
  • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
As part of the program, students also create their own educational path through the Federal Emergency Management Agency's Independent Study system. Students are required to complete 30 hours of coursework throughout their high school career which adds valuable certificates to their resume and boosts the efficacy of the shop's emergency operations center. Many of these courses can also be transferred for college credit.
