Mr. C was surprised by Principal Rivera, Mr. L, and the Freshman and Senior classes to find out he was selected as one of the 2023 Fund For Teachers Fellow program. 130 teachers from around the country were selected. Mr. C will be spending the summer in Japan learning how Japan does emergency management differently from the US. From earthquakes and volcanos to tsunamis and nuclear disasters! He also plans to eat all the sushi. All. Congrats Mr. C! First Apocalypse Club meeting focused on surviving the immediate "end" while the second meeting focused on the Mad Max-esque after world. There is always inevitably dust so we created our Apocalypse Goggles and then tested them out by making our way through a simulated dust storm. Afterwards, we were met with the, also inevitable, Die Hard-esque having to walk on broken glass barefoot which we simulated by walking on Legos. Fun time!
CJPS Sophomores and Juniors coordinated the safe arrival and departure of 31 buses while escorting hundreds of elementary and middle school students to their seats. The New Britain Symphony then performed an exciting performance for the kids. Great experience for the CJPSers and we learned a lot about command and coordination. We are extremely good at victim acting for local police and fire agencies at this point but this was an exceptional opportunity for the CJPS Junior EMT students. We assisted with SWAT Team Medic tryouts and were able to see several incredible SWAT Medic candidates practice their skills. Always happy to help out our local responders! |
