On Saturday, November 3, 2018 Vinal CJPS students volunteered to be victims during a CT Department of Transportation mock train crash. The drill involved numerous agencies including the CT Rail, DOT, Hartford Fire, Hartford Police, State Police, Amtrak Police, Department of Homeland Security, as well as dispatch centers in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Pennsylvania. CJPS volunteers were all tagged with various levels of injuries before departing the Berlin Station. Just north of Hartford, the train simulated a head on crash with a freight train and all of the volunteers not killed in the mock crash had to be rescued. Hartford firefighters and police quickly responded and evacuated the living patients through doors and windows after making the train safe. The drill was a valuable learning experience for all the agencies involved and our students were able to help, learn, and make connections in the trade.
